Pop-up Exhibition at Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park 2025
The exhibition presents wood-fired hand sculptures as metaphors for the transformation of self, alongside self-portrait sculptures reflecting sensorial personal experiences during their residency in Shigaraki.
The exhibition title draws inspiration from Claude Cahun's message of “I is another, and always multiple,” which explores the ambiguity of gender. In this exhibition, Chen reflects on and expands this idea, presenting works that reveal the fragmented self and questioning how queer life experiences have sculpted them, how belief systems and social structures construct them, and how clay and fire serve as media to navigate the cracks between these forces.
